Representative pupils from Secondary Schools across Sutton came together today for an Inaugural Youth Summit which was held at St. Philomena’s School. The focus was on the safety of young people in and around Sutton, and considered young people’s perceptions of crime and safety. The young people were offered the chance to develop their speaking and listening skills by engaging with pupils from other schools and to discuss how to improve the community around them. Knife crime and domestic violence was a large part of discussions as there was representatives from The Police, A Domestic Violence support Charity and Victim Support. Nicola Lim, RSE Teacher from Carew Academy explained that “It was fabulous to see so many different schools and pupils interacting with each other and getting the chance to discuss such pertinent issues affecting so much of society today. It was great to see all the young people speaking so openly in this forum.” Watch this space for more Youth Summits!
