Young Artist wows at Hackbridge Art Fair

On Sunday 6th May, Hackbridge held its first ever Art Fair, marking the inauguration of the lion face carved sculpture by the artist Claudio Funari, founder of Hackbridge’s Community Garden. The Art Fair itself took place in the Community Garden.

One of our Year 6 students, Raphael, marked this occasion by making his first ever experience as a guest artist in a public Arts Exhibition. The event caught the attention of Sutton’s MP, the Mayor and Vice Mayor, who enjoyed watching Raphael painting and even bought his ‘Sunset’ art on Canvas for a whopping £40 pounds before even seeing it finished!

Raphael’s mum said “The Vice Mayor remembered us from March 2020 when, during our British Citizenship Ceremony we asked for her support to get Raphael a place at Carew Academy and was glad to hear he made it and how proudly he speaks of his school”.

Raphael’s second canvas ‘The waterfall’ was also sold before 3pm and another artist taking part on the Exhibition asked to trade her £45 Art on canvas for Raphael’s ‘Moon light’ painting.

Well done Raphael!

P.S. Keep an eye on the local Guardian and you might see him appear there as well!
