World Book Day
On Thursday 7th March, we celebrated World Book Day at Carew Academy. The staff and students all dressed as book characters. We had some wonderful costumes on show, ranging from Harry Potter to Mr Men, Little Red Riding Hood to the Big Bad Wolf, and Willy Wonka to Stanley from Holes.
We celebrated the day in a range of ways. For example, students worked in tutor teams to try and win a competition in which they had to guess the staff members hiding behind the books. Students also wrote their own stories, shared their favourite books, designed their own book front covers, guessed the book characters and listened to stories being read by celebrities and famous authors.
We also held a competition for the best dressed students and staff. The competition was fierce and it was incredibly difficult to choose our winners (some of the photos of our winners are below)!
As a school, we raised £97.80 for Book Aid International – a fantastic achievement!
We all had a fantastic World Book Day and reminded ourselves of our favourite books, as well as why it is important AND enjoyable to read!
A special thank you must go to Miss Simpson and Mrs Grainger for their help in organising this event. Another thank you must also be given to all our staff who worked so hard to make this day a success and turned up in such wonderful costumes!
