Victorian Day

The Carew Academy Victorian Day was held on Friday 10th June.  Staff and pupils dressed up as Victorians – a wide variety of chimney sweeps, orphans, Victorian teachers and maids.  Some classes were able to take part in workshops where they learned about the history of Victorian Carew and the Female Orphanage.  They looked at old photos and read a letter written by one of the orphan girls.  Pupils learnt about the orphanage rules and were able to compare them to life at Carew today.  Together we raised £45.50 which will go towards a fund for a plaque to remember the orphan girls who died at Carew.
