One of Disney’s most iconic stories and currently one of the longest running musicals in the West End, The Lion King, is now to be staged by students and staff at Carew Academy.
The production is being directed by Ms Walker, Drama Teacher, and the score provided by Mr Shepherd, Music Teacher.
It is hoped that the production will be ready for a full audience in May/June, but in the meantime, here’s a brief overview of the story to whet your appetite!:
The production tells the story of Simba, a young lion prince, from his birth in Africa. Simba’s arrival demotes his uncle Scar to the second in line to the throne. Scar plots with the hyenas to kill King Mufasa and Simba, in order to make himself King. The King is killed and Simba is led to believe Scar is responsible, but also that it was his fault. Simba flees the kingdom in shame. After years of exile Simba is persuaded to return home to overthrow the usurper and claim the kingdom as his own, thus completing the ‘Circle of Life’…
