Super Scientists

Pupils from year 9 enjoyed a very practical science session as part of their learning about chemical changes. They donned their safety glasses, lit their Bunsen burners and heated up copper to a high temperature to cause the chemical reaction Copper + Oxygen = Copper Oxide.

They weighed the copper before and after the experiment to show that it had gained mass when the oxygen combined with the copper to form copper oxide.

Teacher, Georgia Wiseman said: “It is really important that pupils have opportunities to carry out practical experiments. It brings the science to life and helps them have a greater understanding of why different substances react the way they do.”
