At Carew Academy, we believe that every student has the potential to lead, inspire, and contribute to our school community. Our Student Leadership Programme provides opportunities for learners from Year 7 to Year 11 (with some role‑specific exceptions) to develop confidence, responsibility, and essential life skills through meaningful leadership roles.
Student Leaders play an important part in shaping school life, promoting our core values, and supporting key areas such as wellbeing, reading, numeracy, and resilience.
Leadership Roles
- Leader for Ambition:
Ambition Leaders work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to support staff recruitment, taking part in interviews, giving feedback, and contributing to menu discussions with the school kitchen chef.
- Leader for Independence:
Independence Leaders guide visitors around the school, support the maintenance team with keeping the environment tidy, and help during school events.
- Leader for Resilience:
Resilience Leaders model perseverance, support younger pupils with safe and positive play, receive training with Commando Joe’s equipment, and take part in assemblies and workshops.
Leader for Caring, Safeguarding and Wellbeing:
These leaders promote kindness, inclusion, and emotional wellbeing, support students who may feel lonely, and work alongside the safeguarding team.
- Leader for Reading:
Reading Leaders promote reading across the school, help organise the library, support Reading Merit rewards, and assist in Reading Club activities.
- Leader for Maths:
Maths Leaders help promote mathematics through Maths Merit rewards, support Maths Club, and join maths‑based enterprise events.
A Growing Community of Leaders
Each leadership role encourages students to develop key strengths such as communication, teamwork, resilience, empathy, and initiative. Even if students have held a leadership role before, they are encouraged to apply again—every year brings new opportunities to contribute and grow.
