Today we had a visit from the Royal Navy STEM Engagement Team. Students from our upper school were able to gain practical experience in some of the applications of STEM in the world today.
They built electrical circuits that transferred electrical energy into movement energy to make a propeller fly. They learnt about how pneumatics devices work by connecting hoses to direct pressurised air though a variety of components to work a piston. Students also developed their coding skills using block coding to control their own ‘Sphero’ robotic ball – controlling its speed, direction, light and sound effects. Our students and staff thoroughly enjoyed all of the activities and meeting and talking to the Royal Navy team.
One student declared “This is the best day ever”.
