Our curriculum is different. Our younger students have enrichment activities every afternoon which include Rock Climbing, Swimming, Horse Riding and a huge range of other activities, our older students can choose from a wide variety of options, alongside a focus on careers education and life after Carew Academy.

Person Specification

We are looking for someone with drive, creativity and a passion for teaching and supporting young people to achieve their best. Your teaching background is not important; what is important is that you have high expectations, love a challenge, and have a determination to make a difference to the lives of our superb students. You will also need to be highly resilient to deal with a wide variety of young people, some of whom display challenging behaviour.

We are looking for someone with a love for numeracy who is capable of teaching Mathematics from Year 7 to Year 13. Our students complete GCSEs, Functional Skills and Entry Level Qualifications.

Carew Academy is an Outstanding school, for pupils between the ages of 7 and 19 who have moderate learning difficulties or a diagnosis of ASD. With 250 students we have a unique family ethos and staff can get to know every child as an individual!

To support staff wellbeing, we have ‘Marking Mondays’ and ‘Wellbeing Wednesdays’. This means we focus on getting all our marking done during school time, an achievable task with a maximum of 12 students in each class. Each half term we have a Wellbeing Wednesday – in more ‘normal’ times we have held staff BBQs and Easter Egg hunts!

Carew achieved an Outstanding Ofsted judgement in January 2020, so this is an exciting time to be joining us, with lots of opportunities for career development within our wider family of Orchard Hill College and Academy Trust.
