Job Description

Full job description – Art and Photography Teacher – JD_PS

Person Specification

We are looking for someone with drive, creativity and a passion for teaching and supporting young people to achieve their best. Your teaching background is not important; what is important is that you have high expectations, love a challenge and have a determination to make a difference to the lives of our superb students.

Further Information

At Carew Academy we take staff wellbeing seriously – healthy and happy staff make great teachers! If you are considering a new challenge in your career then get in touch to find out what makes Carew different. We welcome applicants from all teaching backgrounds to join our team on the journey to Outstanding; NQTs are equally welcome and will benefit for the close support of a small school environment.

Carew Academy is a Good school, with an Outstanding judgement for Behaviour and Safety, for pupils between the ages of 7 and 18 who have moderate learning difficulties or a diagnosis of ASD. With only 220 students we have a unique family ethos and staff are able to get to know every child as an individual, our parents are also incredibly supportive of the school.

To support staff wellbeing we have ‘Marking Mondays’ and ‘Wellbeing Wednesdays’. This means we focus on getting all our marking done during school time, an achievable task with a maximum of 10 students in any class. Each half term we have a Wellbeing Wednesday instead of the regular after school meetings, this might be a BBQ, a yoga session or simply the opportunity to go home early.

Carew has recently had its application to build a brand new school building approved, so this is an exciting time to be joining us with an increasing pupil roll and lots of opportunities for career development within our wider family of Orchard Hill College and Academy Trust.  Our new school will have state of the art resources for Art and Photography.

As a result, we now have an enthusiastic A-Level Art and Photography cohort of five students and we are committed to finding the best person to support these amazing learners.  Art and Photography are both a focus of the curriculum across the whole school and the successful candidate will be able to lead on the development of both GCSE and A-Level options, alongside supporting colleagues delivering Art to Years 3 to 8.  The post is offered with an additional payment for a suitably experienced candidate to develop the new A-level curriculum for both subjects and support colleagues in Art and Photography teaching across the wider Trust.

All of our most recent teaching appointments have come from mainstream backgrounds and are loving life at Carew!  Equally, we welcome candidates with previous experience in specialist provision.

We strongly encourage visits to the school to get a feel of whether it is the right place for you – get in touch for a confidential discussion and to arrange a visit. Please contact me directly, Rob Watkins (Principal) on 07799547594.

Application Guidance

To apply, please send your completed application form to cprice@carewacademy.org.

Please note that CVs will not be considered.

Carew Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.

Carew is an amazing school for our son, he now shines academically and his social skills are outstanding since being part of Carew.  Most of all they understand his needs and support him daily.
