Getting stuck into books for World Book Day 2020!

By Support - March 11th, 2020 | Posted in News

On Thursday 5th March, we celebrated World Book Day at Carew Academy. The staff and students all dressed as book characters. We had some wonderful costumes on show, ranging from Roald Dahl’s Charlie and Fantastic Mr Fox, to Harry Potter, to Captain Underpants!

We celebrated the day in a variety of ways. Students worked in tutor teams to guess the staff members hiding behind the books and figure out who the book characters were in a picture quiz. We also entered a national competition to design our own book tokens – we had some fantastic entries from Carew students!

We held our annual competition for the best dressed students and staff. It was very tricky to choose our winners as everyone looked so brilliant and had put in so much effort! These will be announced in assemblies and winners will be awarded with certificates and some lovely bookmarks, designed by the illustrator Rob Biddulph.

We all had a fantastic World Book Day and reminded ourselves of our favourite books, as well as why it is important AND enjoyable to read!

The students and staff raised £88.38! The money goes to Book Aid International. Every donation helps send books to children affected by conflict, poverty and violence.
