The Consultation on a Proposal to open Futures Academy Free School will start on Wednesday 8th May and close on Tuesday 25th June 2019. For further information on the proposal, public meetings and how to respond to the consultation please click here

The consultation is on the proposal to open The Futures Academy, a new special Free School for the London Borough of Sutton. The consultation will enable local stakeholders to ask questions and gain a much broader overview of our proposal.

All feedback gathered during this consultation process will form part of a report which will be passed on to Orchard Hill College Academy Trust, the sponsoring Trust, and the Department for Education. They will take your views into account when making decisions about the proposed new school for Sutton and whether to enter into a funding agreement which will enable the school to open.

Please find below the consultation document which provides information on the proposal.

The consultation period will run from Wednesday 8th May 2019 to Tuesday 25th June 2019.

As part of the consultation, Public Meetings will be held at The Cricket Centre, Plough Lane, Wallington, Surrey SM6 8JQ on:

  • Thursday 13th June from 6pm to 8pm
  • Friday 14th June from 9.30am to 11.30am

As per Section 10 of the Academies Act 2010, there is a statutory duty to consult with interested parties on the set up of a new Free School. This statutory consultation is separate to the planning consultation.

This consultation is on whether a new Free School is needed in Sutton to provide additional capacity and meet the increasing complexity of need.  Currently, Carew Academy is at maximum capacity and is unable to offer places in KS1.  In addition, the current school building does not allow access for those learners with impaired physical ability.

The school is making such a difference to the lives of our young people. I am immensely proud of all that you are achieving.

Cllr Ruth Dombey, Leader of Sutton Council
