The Futures Academy Free School
The Futures Academy Free School would provide specialist education for 246 children and young people aged 5-19 who have a range of additional learning needs, some of which are complex and may include Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We intend to open this new co-educational Free School in the London Borough of Sutton during the 2022/23 academic year.
Carew Academy, based in the London Borough of Sutton, currently provides for children and young people with the above profile of need from the ages of 7-18. The intention is to close Carew Academy and to create a new Free School, The Futures Academy, that extends the provision for additional learning needs in the area from infant (Key Stage 1) through to post 16.
We strongly believe that extending the entry in this way would support children with complex profiles of need to achieve more fully as a result of access to specialist intervention and teaching from an early age, continuously through to post 16. This wider age range, together with the increased complexity of need that is already presenting in Carew’s current student body, presents a substantial change in the profile of our existing facilities.
About Orchard Hill College Academy Trust
The Futures Academy would be an important part of an established family of specialist schools and academies that make up Orchard Hill College Academy Trust (OHCAT). OHCAT is a ‘family’ of schools, currently comprised of 15 special academies across London, Surrey, Sussex and Berkshire.
OHCAT was established in 2013 by Orchard Hill College(OHC) to share its expertise and provide services and support to specialist schools. Together, Orchard Hill College & Academy Trust (OHC&AT) provides for over 1500 pupils and students from nursery through to further education and into adulthood.
All of us at OHC&AT are committed to realising the potential of our pupils and students and we work together to ensure they achieve their very best in their local communities.
