Exclusive GCSE Art and Photography Preview Event
Year 11 Art & Design and Photography GCSE students invited parents, staff and VIPs to an exclusive preview of their excellent coursework and final exam pieces. They set up a gallery to present their versatile design skills and superb creativity. A classroom was transformed into a kaleidoscope of colour, textures and incredible photography.
Guests were greeted by students and invited to view the wonderful interactive displays and brilliant art books. Rob Watkins, Principal of Carew Academy described the event as “A culmination of two years hard work and creativity that deserved to be celebrated.”
Staff and students collaborated to get the gallery set up for this special event ahead of moderators coming to the school next week. Mrs Groves, Teacher of Art, Design and Photography said she felt “huge pride in her students” adding “this event is a celebration and a validation of their artistic flare, spirit and lots of hard work.”
Teaching Assistant, Shirley Baldwin commended students on their presentation skills and the way they “engaged with visitors and eloquently answered their questions. This was echoed by the Principal saying: “I have been equally impressed with students’ abilities to talk passionately about their work as the quality of the work itself! The students and their work have been inspiring.”
The final word has to go to student, Kieran who presented a poignant piece of prose alongside his self-portrait, summing up the last two years as a journey of “creativity and self-discovery”
