As part of engaging pupils at Carew Academy in the general election, we will be holding an election in School on May 7th to elect the Student Parliament, formally known as the Student Council.
Today’s assemblies gave pupils an overview of our parliament, the importance of voting, and the meaning of democracy – how important it is to have a voice in the matters that affect you.
Those standing for Student Parliament are being coached through tutor time and directed reading time to explain in more detail the process and how to prepare and deliver election speeches.
Envelopes for the ballots will be distributed to all classes this afternoon and the election itself is scheduled for Thursday morning. Mirroring the general election, the ballot is secret and confidential.
This election is showing students they are able to make a choice about who will represent them and who will be their voice in Parliament, taking time to discuss what makes a good candidate, what the Student Parliament can achieve, and why are we doing it. This is an exciting time for the pupils, good luck to all our candidates!
