“Book Sparks” pop-up bookshop
On Wednesday 19th November we enjoyed our first event as part of the Discovery Programme run by the Children’s Book Project, a literacy charity dedicated to giving every child their own books. The programme presents an exciting opportunity for children to choose and take home six books of their own over the course of this year. Books are entirely free of charge and are for children to keep or to pass on to friends. The programme features three unique book gifting events, one per term, designed to nurture positive reader identities, boost reading motivation, and celebrate the joy of book ownership.
We held a “Book Sparks” pop-up bookshop for all students in Lower and Middle School (Years 4-9). Students came to the Library with their class and each picked a “Book Sparks” card, designed to provide gentle support for encouraging “booktalk” and to build children’s confidence to browse and choose books. Students were then invited to chose two books to take home, to share with their family and friends and enjoy together. Our Sixth Form Reading Leaders were a great help on the day and we had lots of happy customers 🙂
We are already looking forward to our next event in the spring term! We are delighted to have been selected by the Children’s Book Project for the Discovery Project. For more details about the Children’s Book Project, please visit https://childrensbookproject.co.uk/
